For those of you who don't know me, let me introduce myself. My name is Dr. Matt McAlees. I've had the honor and privilege of working with everything from olympic athletes to the NFL Alumni Association and working with every professional team here in Charlotte, North Carolina.
My first degree was a Doctor of Chiropractic. I love chiropractic medicine because it taught me to not only identify a diagnosis, but help my patients figure out the cause of a symptom and fix it for good so they wouldn't have to be on medications or undergo surgeries that impact them for the rest of their lives. I went back to school get a Doctorate in Natural Medicine. I was born into a healthcare family and have been studying it since 2002.
In this video, I've shared some pictures from the 2012 Olympics which was pretty cool. I've also shared some pictures of my family. I have four daughters and my wife Kara. She's absolutely amazing, and I love her so much. The two youngest are ridiculously cute. Those of you out there with kids know what I'm talking about. Just to see them grow up is absolutely amazing, and I love spending time with them.
When you think about nutrition, you typically think about one of two things - health or losing weight, and really, those two things can go hand-in-hand. Ultimately, you are what you eat, and you become what you fuel your body with. I struggled with my weight my entire life, from the time I was in middle school through adulthood. I was a competitive wrestler, and I worked my butt off. But every time I went to get on the scale, the guy next to me was in better shape. I got laughed at because they thought I didn't work hard. My body never reflected the amount of effort and energy I put towards being healthy and working out.
It was through my studies that I was able to turn my body and my life around. I have some genetic abnormalities, had heavy metal and mold toxicity, and some other things that affected my hormones and weight loss. In these pictures, you can see where I was. And then, you can see where I am today.
The foundation of health starts inside the body. You have an innate born intelligence in your body that controls everything, and you have to give that inborn intelligence fuel that is more than just calories. And that's what we'll talk about in the next video.
